mPNS

Magnetic Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (mPNS):

Magnetic Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (mPNS) is an FDA approved method for chronic pain treatment, including; neuropathic, musculoskeletal, and post-surgical pain. It is a non-invasive method that focuses a magnetic field using a coil over a targeted area. When the magnetic field fluctuates, it produces an electrical current through the peripheral nerves and muscles under the skin providing pain relief. Typically mPNS treatment consists of six initial sessions with maintenance on an as needed basis. There are three treatments in the first week, and one treatment per week over the following three weeks. By following the recommended 13.5-minute sessions, patients may begin to experience relief from their chronic pain during the first week of treatment.

Cost per session: $250

Examples of Chronic Pain:

  • What is post-surgical pain?

Post-surgical pain is discomfort that occurs after an operation. Common examples include patients who go through knee replacement surgery. Pain typically decreases as surgical sight heals but patients may experience pain in the area during the healing period.

  • What is musculoskeletal pain?

Musculoskeletal pain affects the bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and nerves. It can be caused by an acute injury, general overuse, or chronic conditions. Pain could be localized or widespread. An example of musculoskeletal pain is lower back pain due to a muscle strain from lifting heavy objects.

  • What is Neuropathic pain?

Neuropathic pain is caused by damage or dysfunction to the nervous system. It may feel like a burning, tingling, or shooting pain that can result from various conditions, for example, diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic patients could feel these symptoms due to nerve damage in their extremities.

Exclusionary Factors for mPNS Treatment:

Patients with metallic implants, pacemakers, heavily tattooed individuals, pregnancy or skin conditions at the stimulation site should avoid mPNS therapy. Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice.
